Welcome to Iliana Patron Art

Welcome to my space. I use painting as a channel to express feelings. My work in the field of mental health counseling has helped me understand emotions at various levels, while my experience in education contributes to the use of multiple means to communicate them. While I disclose through poetry the idea that inspired each painting, it still allows for an open representation of what it could mean to those who see my work.

There’s always a pain that
Splashes each victory,
A black veil that wants
To blend with the colors of victory,
With the light that shines
On the one who has won.

Salpica cada victoria,
Un manto negro que se quiere
Confundir con los colores de la victoria,
Con la luz que ilumina
A aquel que ha ganado.)

In the horizon of my existence,
Beyond my illusion of being

I love you.
I am still present,
Even if you don’t see me.

That song that you heard,
It was all me.
In continues to be,
For I was set free.

Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Full Poem:
Into the unknown I go,
Without a plan, I am afraid.
I go alone,
Alone I walk,
I carry on by myself.
I look at the water underneath and see it as a quiet companion,
A silent friend
Who helps me find you
At the end of my bridge.

No Mistakes

Title: No Mistakes
Dimensions: 8" x 10"
Medium: Acrylic on canvas

There are no mistakes.
Only lines that were supposed to be straight
But left their original path.
New forms that were unexpected
But that now are part of the scene.

Not What I Wanted

Title: Not What I Wanted
Dimensions: 8" × 10"
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Full Poem:
It’s not what I wanted.
I longed for something else.
And in its absence,
I lost my hope.
I lost my sight,
My ability to see pass through.
I stayed where I was,
As move passed forward I could not.
I now take another look,
Seeking a different sight.
Finding a reason for it all,
Of why I wanted so that way
With my first breath,
To then realize,
It was not the wrong way,
I was just another way
To find myself.

Underneath

Title: Underneath
Dimensions: 11" × 14"
Medium: Acrylic on canvas panel
Full Poem:
Underneath it is.
Layered by questions
With many answers that lay underneath.
Underneath is real,
It exists,
It is.
Underneath it remains,
The stands the lapse of time,
It remains, underneath.

Life

Title: Life
Dimensions: 8" × 10"
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Full Poem:
All begins with a clean slate
Sharing the same dream.
But they come from different circumstances,
It’s a fair attempt is said,
As when all rivers to sea.
In the middle of the journey,
Tears of loss and those of joy appear,
Unable to be denied,
Its presence becomes so real.
Surprises defy free will it seems,
A clean slate belief reappears,
If only for a few moments dear.
Dreams come and go
Swinging of fates touches all.
Changes come in to claim their space.
Sometimes near, sometimes far away.
At times expected,
At others a betray.
The game continues,
Now so different it seems
From that first breath.
Defeats come to join
As unwanted guests taking their place.
It is not your fault,
Since it’s as supposed to be is said.
Yet dreams carry on,
Unwilling to believe,
Still trusting it can be.
The end surely comes,
Sometimes too early,
Sometimes too late.
The time comes for someone else
To take the place,
To begin once again with a clean slate.

Book: A Life Manual for My Sons - by Iliana Patron

Life comes without a manual. We learn to figure things out as we go and sometimes the lessons seem to have been learned too late. As an attempt to minimize the hurt that comes with life challenges and to provide a manual to offer life guidance, I share with my sons 10 of the hopes I wish for them, as they embark into their own lives. Each hope allows for a brief glimpse into what happened in her life that originated that lesson and the inspiration behind it. What originated as a letter to my sons, became a life manual that others can relate to as well.
